This cute thing started nursery!  Dave and I were put in the nursery and it was a relief. I was realllly hoping it would go well. I know, I know.  Church is never easy with kids. But it has been a huge challenge the past year and it was to the point where I was filled with dread each Saturday night. I normally really love Sunbeams but it was horrible having Sunny, one really challenging Sunbeam, and four Sunbeams who were so cute, but still 3&4.

So far Sunny loves nursery and I'm not filled with dread leading up to church!  So we have a win win!

I know a lot of people have callings with babies, but babies are so different. And my baby...she's not cut out for coming along and playing quietly while I teach. I hope she keeps loving it. I love being able to watch her transition to nursery, too.
Oh this picture has nothing to do with nursery but her pigtails!!

Snack time in nursery-I looooooved how her legs hung over the chair. Oh man I love her!!

She loved walking around playing with all the toys. Dave and I are wondering why she won't do it at home!!

Detmer is tearing it up on the basketball court this season. He told me before his game "Mom I'm going to go beast mode."  And he did!  He's a huge hustler!  He's scored the majority of his teams points this season. He jumps high and work yard for all the rebounds. It's so fun watching him play!

He spends a ton of time shooting hoops so it's really fun to see him reap the benefits of his practice. This kid always has something going on. Pretty sure his mind works a million miles a minute.

Queen Bee

Today Allie and Det participated in the spelling bee. I am so dang proud of those two. They go for everything. They have no fear. I hope they keep their love of extra curricular activities.

Det did awesome. I told him next year he needs to study and I know he can win.

Allie made it far enough to make it to district.

I told Dave I had a million emotions within five minutes. My heart broke when Det got out. I could tell he was devastated and I was so bummed for him. But Allie was killing it and I was so happy and excited for her. She competes at district next month!

Allie has started skiing!  She was so excited to get started. I was nervous and so glad that Dave was the one taking her. I was just hoping Dave would remember her to tell her that one detail about skiing that he forgot to tell me. How to stop. (He did!). Allie loved it and Dave finally had to force her home well after dark. They've already been twice. Allie is so excited for next season, too, when Det will get to come along.

For Christmas Dave booked a hotel for me in mid January.  I was super excited to have some downtime but I also couldn't resist having the kids join me for a bit. Maci made the kids invitations while they were at school. We just finished reading the Book of Mormon and we always like to celebrate that. So the invite was for a pool party. Since Maci had a birthday the day before I wanted to do a little surprise party for her. I checked into the hotel as early as possible and went and decorated. I came home just before the kids got back from school. The three older kids new about the surprise so I pretended like I was taking them to see the new gym daycare-which Maci had already seen. I told Maci she was going on errands with Dave. Kelly brought her boys, too. We all hid and waited for Maci. When we yelled "surprise!" she was definitely surprised. But not in the way I planned. She seemed more on the verge of tears than excited.

She opened her presents and then we swam. We got her favorite dinner (Pizza Hut).  After
dinner Dave took Sunny home and the other kids stayed the night with me. They made me laugh at breakfast "I wonder what Sunny is doing right now?"  "Did I tell you the cute thing Sunny did the other day?"  You'd think they were apart for more than 15 hours!  But I have to admit I missed her pretty dang bad. I was texting Dave to hurry and bring her. She is the light of our lives. Man we love that girl.

So Dave took the kids sledding Saturday and I stayed in my hotel. It was AMAZING!!!  I told Dave that we have a new tradition on our hands. I know what we are doing every MLK day from now on. It was a glorious break. Allie started texting me first thing Sunday morning, "Mom did you say we could come back today?"  Of course I had to torture her a bit😊.  After
Church Dave brought the kids back to me. Sunny stayed a bit and was totally insane I was like sheesh why was I missing you so much?πŸ˜‚

The kids stayed the night and sadly my vacation ended early Monday since Dave and Allie were going skiing.

Det holding the birthday girl!
Maci got two new outfits to match her doll. Of course the one Kendal tom over was a size 4.  The one Maci wore was a six. Maci was most excited about that scarf and wore it so proudly to school.

My beautiful young lady was baptized at last. She barely missed her original baptism date because it was the day we were flying home.

I think the extra anticipation was good. She was soooo excited and beautiful and she really just glowed throughout the day.

Afterwards we went for lunch. It was one of the best ideas I've ever had. I'm not one to go all out for the post baptism (blessing, etc) luncheons so I've never considered it a huge stress. However after Kendall's baptism I don't think I will ever host an after party again!  It was so nice to just really be able to focus on Kendall and enjoy the day without that distraction. It made me a little remorseful that I didn't figure it out sooner!  I remember the night before kendals blessing I got sooo sick and I was still up cooking late into the night. Lame. I should have said "sorry I fell ill so we won't  be doing a lunch."  It's funny how you (I) sometimes just conform.

Anyway, for me personally that made the day a lot more enjoyable and Kendall had a fantastic day and stayed out playing with siblings and cousins all day and came home from Get Air late at night

When we were still planning on doing a lunch Kendall said she wanted hamburgers. So on Friday night we had a special baptism dinner with hamburgers. Kendall loved the extra attention and I'm glad it was all made into such a big deal. Something I hope she will always remember!.

Maci lost her first tooth on our cruise!

One night at dinner she wouldn't touch her pizza and we couldn't figure out why. Finally Dave realized her tooth was bothering her. He wanted so bad to pull it so it would quit bugging her but she said no way. She and Dave left dinner and when the tooth came out she sobbed hysterically. It's just so shocking. Of course she was concerned about whether or not the tooth fairy would find her in the middle of ocean. Good news!  She got her purple magical water and her two dollar bill.

She has since lost one more tooth!

We learned two things on our last vacation:
1). Sunny hates to fly
2). Sunny loves to cruise

I told Dave I didn't know how long it would be before I could forget the horror of flying with Sunny and be up for booking another vacation. The answer turned out to be about five minutes.

The flight out was horrible.  She screamed the entire time. It was a red eye and everyone was trying to sleep. I sat in the bathroom with her for over half the flight. She did so well on our flight to Puerto Rico.  I was fully prepared with juice, treats, crackers. Oh my gosh. Nothing could be done. The way back went "better" but that's not saying much.

Thankfully Sunny LOVED the cruise. We tried so hard to teach her to walk so she wasn't crawling around on the dirty carpet. She started walking about an hour after we got back home.

Ever since our hammock accident, we always have to get a hammock selfie. We've had no further incidents of ending up on the ground, though swinging in the hammock will never be the same.

In St Maarten we decided to try out Great bay, right at the port. It was a quick boat ride over.

I packed matching Christmas outfits for the family. I thought wouldn't it be cute to get a family photo on the ship?  So on forma night I pulled out everyone's coordinating outfits. Kendall and Maci both had shoe incidents so they had tennis shoes on. Det's pants were about three sizes too small. Allie put the wrong leggings on and looked ridiculous, but she is at the age where I didn't want to embarrass her by saying something. So. Dave, Sunny, and me looked fantastic!  But definitely no on the family pic unless we want a blooper.

Kendall was the perfect kid to celebrate her birthday on a cruise. She loved all the attention. After Halloween I found a "Birthday Princess" crown on clearance at a Claire's. I wanted to surprise Kendal with it, so since she was with me I decided to come back on Monday. On Monday the price was higher. I'm cheap and it was basically paper so I didn't want to pay extra. I explained to the girl and she gave it to me for two bucks. Holla!  Kendall wore it on her birthday and every other chance she got and glowed at the attention. The best part was when our waiter asked if she and Maci were twins. I asked him why he thinks we would only celebrate Kendall. Haha. They love pretending to be twins.

St Kitts was our only new port and (ahem) I nailed it. The beach was beautiful and hardly anyone was there. We had so much fun playing.

I love Grand Turk because the ship is right next to the beach. This was our second visit to Grand Turk and we liked it even better than our previous visit. There was some awesome snorkeling.

I think grand Turk was Sunny's favorite, too. It was fun to see her so in love with the beach.  Maybe it's genetic. She ate soooooooo much sand. It was insane. Her diapers were full of sand, and not because it got in her diaper. I thought she would taste it once and stop but apparently she enjoyed it because we could not get her to stop!

One thing that was AWESOME!  Allie was so good to watch Sunny.  Sunny is too young for the kids club so I was a little remorseful at myself that I couldn't resist planning a cruise before she could go there. However, Sunny's life will be different than the older kids and after cruising I honestly don't see her ever spending much time in the kids club.  So Dave and I could go to shows and walk the decks and Allie was our super girl. Det was helpful as well, but he wanted to spend a lot more time at the kids club than Allie did.

On the last day of the cruise I took a Allie to the "sweet shop"-the candy shop on board-and told her she could spend $20 on whatever she wanted. So here is a room full of ridiculously overpriced candy and I'm the mom who can barely buy a gallon of milk if it's not on same. Allie didn't even question I though. She was in heaven and spent over an hour picking out her candy. She, of courses, made sure to buy something for the sibs as well. Dave then surprised Det and took him. He also loved it and picked out treats for the sins and me!  Anyways, we ended up having on board credit that we didn't know about so that's the only reason they got the candy.

On our past cruises the kids have wanted to eat dinner in the kids club, but I really enjoyed having them at dinner. This time we all ate together each night. A couple of times they wanted to eat at the kids club but for whatever reason, they didn't.  I think from now on we'll eat together each night. The crazy thing about cruising is that Sunny pays the same price as some adult with a huge appetite. She at each mac and cheese every night.  I was glad she found something she loved, since she's not a very good eater. (Another genetic trait!). Kendall mostly got steak!  Same with Allie and Det but Allie was really brave.  She ordered something interesting most nights just to try it.  Maci mostly got pizza. I can't say too much. Dave and I are not adventurous eaters either!

Kendall was convinced she wanted to try the ropes course, since she was finally tall enough. We made the mistake of me taking her. By nature, I'm a helicopter mom. I have to fight it. So when she went over the 20 ft tall beam and even I wanted to barf from nerves, I quickly allowed her to get off.

She really wanted to try again and I wanted her to do it!  She needed to!  This is where her awesome Dad came into play. He said, "if you come with me, you're not getting off until the end."  Tough love!  I like it. Dave helped her a ton and of course she wanted Maci, me, and Sunny to follow and cheer her on from the ground below. Occasionally I'd shout her mantra, "that gal right there's gonna rule the world!"  She loves when I do that. I wonder how long before she'll be like, ok mom enough is enough.

I love my family!!
